YOUR VOICE, OUR COMMUNITY
By Ja'Milla Lomas January 27, 2026
(Klein, TX. January 27, 2026) As of 8:00 a.m., the Harris County Emergency Services District 16, Klein Fire Department (“HCESD 16” or “KFD”) has deactivated its Emergency Operations Center (EOC) following improved conditions after Winter Storm Fern . The EOC activation had enhanced coordination, situational awareness, and emergency response capabilities across the Klein community during the storm. During the operational period from Saturday, January 24 through 6:00 a.m. on January 27, Klein Fire responded to 67 incidents, including: • 5 fires • 4 hazardous situations • 27 medical calls • 18 public service calls • 1 rescue • 12 non-emergency calls KFD extends sincere appreciation to community members who stayed off icy roads and followed safety guidance. Their cooperation helped ensure crews could respond quickly and safely to neighbors in distress. The department had previously urged residents to avoid unnecessary travel, monitor weather updates, prepare for freezing temperatures, and check on vulnerable individuals – messages that supported overall community safety. “Our priority is the safety of our residents, visitors, and first responders,” Fire Chief Jason Catrambone emphasized during the storm response, noting that the EOC allowed KFD and partner agencies to coordinate resources and decision-making effectively. Throughout the event, the EOC served as a centralized command center enabling real-time collaboration with partners such as the Texas Division of Emergency Management, Harris County Fire Marshal, and Harris County Flood Control District. Residents are encouraged to continue monitoring official sources for preparedness information and future weather updates. For emergencies, call 9-1-1.
