Unofficial Results Show Klein Fire Department Funding Proposition Approved by Voters

(Klein, TX—May 3, 2026) Harris County Emergency Services District 16, Klein Fire Department (“HCESD 16” or “KFD”) announced last night that unofficial results from the May 2 special election indicate voter approval of the district’s proposition to adjust its tax rate cap.

Early, unofficial totals show 706 votes in favor and 534 votes against, with 5 provisional ballots and 61 ballots requiring curing before the results are finalized by HCESD 16. Official canvassing will occur in accordance with state election procedures.

The ballot measure asked voters to consider increasing the district’s tax cap from $0.05 to the state‑allowed maximum of $0.10 per $100 of property valuation. The current cap has remained unchanged for almost two decades, dating back to when Klein Fire Department operated as an all‑volunteer organization. Today, the department provides 24/7/365 fire and emergency rescue response to one of the fastest‑growing areas in Harris County.

“This election placed the future of emergency services in the hands of the Klein community,” said Fire Chief Jason Catrambone. “Klein Fire Department can continue meeting the community’s expectations for timely, professional, and well‑equipped emergency response.”

“We are deeply grateful to the residents who took the time to learn about the proposition and make their voices heard,” said Lance Wilson, President of the Board of Commissioners of Harris County ESD 16. “Pending certification of the results, this decision will allow us to continue strengthening our fire and rescue capabilities, support our firefighters, and ensure that Klein remains a safe and well‑protected community for years to come.”

Harris County ESD 16 will share updates once the election results are officially canvassed.
