Public Education

Community, Business & Civic Group Fire Safety Presentations

We offer fire safety presentations that cover topics such as smoke/carbon monoxide alarms, making an escape plan, fire prevention in workplaces and single and multi-dwelling residences, holiday fire safety, kitchen safety, and fire extinguisher use. We also provide fire and fall safety to senior groups and facilities to reduce fire risks and support emergency preparedness. An in-service fire truck with station crew may be requested to accompany the presentation.

Fire Station Tours, Touch-a-Truck Fire Safety

Klein Fire offers residents within our district the opportunity to tour one of our stations, request a fire truck to visit their event, or for us to take part in a parade or other special public event.

Station tours and Touch-a-Truck visits allow groups to learn more about fire safety and how we operate as a fire department. Tours typically involve neighborhood, school, church, or scout groups; however, we welcome individuals and families to schedule time to visit. Touch-a-Trucks can be scheduled for groups at their  business/ organization locations.

Station tours and Touch-a-Truck visits generally last about 1 hour, but no more than two. Public event attendance will be scheduled for no more than 2 hours. It should be noted that with all visits, firefighters will remain “in service”, which may affect their arrival and/or departure times if they have been called away to an emergency.

Fire Safety Smoke House

The Klein Fire Safety Smoke House is a 1-level, inflatable replica of a house that is transported via trailer to schools and community events. Our team conducts fire safety presentations in each room of the house that culminates in active participation of evacuating a dwelling that is filling up with (theatrical) “smoke”.

The Fire Safety Smoke House needs to be reserved at least 1 month in advance for major events with a minimum expected attendance of at least 100 people. The house is most suitable for elementary and middle school-aged children. Setting up will require a level and accessible area of at least 20 x 20 feet in size, within close proximity to an electrical outlet.

School Visits, Career Days and Fairs

Our team brings age-appropriate fire safety awareness to school groups throughout the year. Depending on specific program needs, presentations may include:

  • Recognizing firefighters as community helpers
  • Understanding how and when to call for help (9-1-1)
  • Common causes and dynamics of fire
  • Good fire safety behaviors
  • Get Low and Go, making an escape plan and exit drills
  • Stop, Drop & Roll
  • Fire extinguisher use
  • Seat belt and helmet safety
  • Fire apparatus tools and tours (Touch-a-Truck)
  • Firefighter gear and equipment demonstration
  • Fire Safety Smoke House
  • General emergency preparedness tips

Scout Night & First Aid Safety

Klein Fire loves working with Scout groups who visit our stations or invite us to present at meetings. So that we may reach more Scouts, we hold an annual Scout Night that will help them achieve certain badge requirements that relate to life and fire safety. This event is open to all scout groups within the Klein service area.
