Child Car Seat Safety Inspection and Education

Keeping our children safe is a high priority for the Klein Fire Department. One method to do that is by providing proper car seat safety education to area residents. Our nationally Certified Child Passenger Technician(s) will work one-on-one with caregivers, practicing proper harnessing and installation to ensure child passengers are riding in vehicles safely. While having a car seat for the session (whether it is a simple check-up or installation) is necessary, the presence of the child is not. We have dolls that will assist us in practicing proper harnessing.

Klein Fire collaborates with Safe Kids Greater Houston, led by Texas Children’s Hospital to provide resources and education, and will periodically coordinate large-scale child car seat safety events with them.

2024 Dates: 2nd Tuesdays | January 9; February 13; March 12; April 9; May 14; June 11; July 9; August 13; September 10; October 8; November 12; December 10.

Smoke Alarm Inspection, Replacement and Installation

Fire safety in the home is of the utmost importance to the Klein Fire Department. Working smoke alarms are essential in helping to protect residents and assisting us in saving lives and property. We are happy to be able to offer at least two (2) free smoke alarms to Klein residents in need. We will also visit your home to inspect existing smoke alarms and CO2 detectors and replace batteries. The only prerequisites are that residents live in privately-owned homes within the Klein service area; access to the smoke alarms be no higher than 12 feet; and residents have a genuine need for assistance, such as those who have physical disabilities, are elderly or who are low-income.

Fire Safety at Special Events

Public events sponsored by organizations, schools, places of worship, neighborhood associations, scouts or similar groups may request KFD participation. Due to the popularity of special events such as Fourth of July, National Night Out, and end-of-school-year sprays, we suggest groups submit event requests at least 30 days in advance. We are not able to schedule apparatus visits to private residences or private events.

Public event attendance will be scheduled for no more than 2 hours. It should be noted that with all visits, firefighters will remain “in service”, which may affect their arrival and/or departure times if they have been called away to an emergency.

To schedule an appointment for car seat or home smoke alarm installation, please contact us at community@kleinfire.org. To request our participation at a special event, please fill out this form.
