In August 2018, HCESD 16 was awarded a rating of ISO Class 2 by the Texas Department of Insurance and the State Fire Marshal’s Office. From the letter linked above:

“You are among the select few to achieve a class 2 rating in Texas. The community has achieved one of the highest Public Protection Classification ratings awarded by the Insurance Services Office and approved by the Texas Department of Insurance and are among the nation’s best.”

The Public Protection Classification (PPC) is the countrywide classification system used by the Insurance Services Office (ISO) to grade a community's local fire protection. This grade is then used to set property insurance rates. The public fire protection of a city, town, or area is graded using ISO's Fire Suppression Rating Schedule to develop the community's classification.

ISO classifies communities by grading such features as water distribution, fire department equipment and manpower, hydrant coverage, and fire alarm facilities. A perfect score in Texas is 104.26. It consists of 50 points for fire department capabilities, 40 points for water supply and distribution, 10 points for receiving and handling fire alarms and up to 4.26 points for "Texas Exceptions" that give extra credit for compressed air foam systems, certified volunteers and attending or teaching at the annual firemen's training school at Texas A&M University. An ISO rating of 2 means the district scored between 80 and 89.99 points. Again, from the linked letter:

“An improved PPC rating can effectively lower the cost of property insurance rates for residential and commercial properties within the community. The citizens should be proud of the overall services that make the community a safer place to live and work. As a result of better fire protection, you will see lower insurance rates.”

This is a very prestigious award for the district, an improvement from their previous rating of ISO 3, and HCESD 16 is proud and humbled to have achieved the ISO 2 rating in all the hydrant-supported areas of the district. This directly benefits the community, and is a direct result of the hard work and time HCESD 16 has put into providing efficient and effective fire protection services to the Klein area. This rating puts HCESD 16 in the top 7% of all rated Texas districts.
